Channel 3 Personality Mark Zinni Promotes Foundation’s Charitable Mission

New Britain, Conn., May 10, 2016 – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain was the beneficiary of some local television exposure in more ways than one on Monday, May 9, as WFSB Eyewitness News personality Mark Zinni stopped by the Foundation’s Vine Street offices as part of the television station’s “20 Towns in 20 Days” Connecticut community spotlight.

Along with featuring interviews with CFGNB Vice President Bob Trojanowski and Director of Community Initiatives Joeline Wruck on the station’s 5:30 p.m. Monday telecast, the station also donated $1,500 to the Foundation, including a $1,000 cash donation and a $500 gift certificate to P.C. Richard & Sons for technology upgrades.

“We are always amazed at the difference that amount of money can make, and especially in this climate — and yes, it absolutely makes a huge, huge difference,” said Joeline Wruck, director of community initiatives for the Foundation, in thanking WFSB for its generosity.

“One of the big areas that we concentrate on is education, particularly pre-school education with our First Years First early childhood development initiative, and we believe in working with the local school boards and boards of education to fund those needs,” said Bob Trojanowski, vice president of operations and chief financial officer for the Foundation, when asked by Zinni what areas of need the Foundation is presently focused on.

Added Wruck: ”One of our big areas of focus through First Years First is our support of the Coalition for New Britain’s Youth. The Coalition, city and school district have received national attention for our grass-roots efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism, negate summer learning loss and improve grade-level reading, and the Community Foundation is proud to be part of this collaborative effort.”
