Capacity Building for Nonprofits

Since 2018, when the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain started its Capacity Building Initiative, staff and board members from nonprofit organizations have benefitted from trainings, workshops, and webinars designed to help them strengthen their operations and address the increasingly difficult challenge of sustaining programs and services during lean fiscal times. Workshops topics range from fundraising, strategic planning, and building a strong team of staff and volunteers to board governance and marketing and the effective use of new technology. Organizations have also benefitted from mini-grants aimed at incorporating capacity building practices into their operations. An Executive Director’s Forum provides a place for Executive Directors to come together to network, exchange ideas, learn, share best practices and collaborate. Participants in our capacity building Initiative are finding it relevant and impactful.

The Initiative also includes a free onsite Nonprofit Lending Library and Resource Center (NPLRC) that provides relevant print and online resources focused on securing and writing grants, governance, and a variety of professional areas. A link to the attached materials can be found HERE. The CFGNB has a subscription to the Foundation Directory Online (FDO), a powerful resource that contains information on more than 225,000+ grant makers. The Library and Resource Center also has an on-line subscription to Board Source which visitors are welcome to access. BoardSource is the recognized leader in nonprofit board leadership research, leadership, and support. It provides leaders with an extensive range of tools, resources, and research data to increase board effectiveness and strengthen organizational impact, and serve as the national voice for inspired and effective board leadership. You are invited to use our Resource Center and Library in person by making an appointment with Joeline Wruck, Director of Grants & Initiatives. You can either email or call: jwruck@cfgnb.org or 860.229.6018 x 307.
