Southington Public Library Capital Needs Fund
The Southington Public Library is dedicated to its mission to be Southington’s community center and premier resource for information, lifelong learning and cultural enrichment. It is known throughout the region for its wide range of high-quality programs for the public. These include political forums, musical performances, craft nights, outreach to veterans, storytimes and high-tech programs for children, lots of teen-friendly programs, scholar-led book discussions, healthy-living programs, talks by nationally known authors, and much more.
On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, Southington voters overwhelmingly approved a $16,900,000 referendum to fund the construction of a new library and demolition of the existing facility. A Building Committee, which was appointed by the Town Council, developed a plan that maximized the physical building space. A $5,000,000 State of Connecticut bond grant was obtained in 2023 to increase the square footage and improve the architectural features. This grant did not include funding for furniture and fixtures inside the larger space. The board of the Southington Public Library and Museum recently announced the launch of the public phase of the capital campaign supporting the new Southington Public Library, which is under construction and on target to open in late November 2024. Funds raised from donations will purchase furniture, fixtures and equipment, enabling public funds to be used to maximize the square footage of the new building. More than $620,000 has been contributed toward our goal of $1,000,000 thanks to generous supporters. Donors who contribute over $1,000 will have their name on a plaque on display in the new building and brick contributions count toward that $1,000 minimum. Customized bricks will be installed on the library patio in the spring of 2025!
