Newly Established Fund Assists NBHS Together Matters Program

New Britain, Conn., May 5, 2022 – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain is proud to announce a newly established designated fund, the Together Matters Fund.
The fund was established by Sue and Bill Butler in order to assist New Britain High School’s Together Matters program, which is a class offered at the high school that develops and implements a pre-teaching experience for students interested in careers in education. Together Matters provides elementary school students with high school mentors that assist students in the learning process and motivates students to set high academic goals.

At the fund signing ceremony in March, after Sue and Bill expressed their hopes for the program, the Together Matters participants shared their stories about pulling younger students out of their shells, assisting with behavioral issues, and motivating them in their classwork. The program gives the NBHS students the experience to know what the classroom atmosphere is like, as well as the positive feelings of making connections and helping students.

“We’re hopeful that you, as role models, will have a significant positive impact on the elementary students you mentor. I don’t know if you remember being in third grade, but high school kids then probably looked like super heroes or demi-gods to you. And that’s what you are to them. When you go to these elementary schools, in all probability those students are looking at you like ‘yeah that’s who I want to be. I want to be like her.’ We’re confident you are having a positive impact on the future academic performance and graduation rate of the students at the schools where you are mentors” Bill Butler

Donors who wish to support a specific agency or cause can establish a designated fund. If the original charity ceases to exist, becomes obsolete or is unable to perform its charitable mission, our Board of Directors is able to redirect the funds to an organization providing similar services without the cost of expensive legal action. Donors can create a new designated fund, or contribute to an existing one.

If you are interested in establishing your own fund or scholarship, please contact David Obedzinski, CFGNB President, at 860-229-6018, ex. 306 or david@cfgnb.org.
