New Scholarship Fund Established at CFGNB to Benefit Students with Life Threatening Illness

New Britain, Conn., May 17, 2022 – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain is proud to announce a newly established scholarship fund, the Spencer’s Hero Academia Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Douglass and Nancy Tracy reached out to the Foundation with the hope of establishing a fund to honor the courage and vision of their son, Spencer Paul Tracy. Spencer was diagnosed with AML, a rare and aggressive form of leukemia at the age of 15. Following a series of treatments and a stem cell transplant, Spencer developed life threatening respiratory complications and passed away at the age of 18.

Spencer had a love for knowledge. His dream was to help heal, support, and inspire children suffering from life threatening illnesses and assist them with educational pursuits where possible. In honor of Spencer’s wishes, the fund’s purpose is to enable recipients to attend an accredited college or university. One or more scholarship(s) per year will be awarded to candidates who have previously or are currently experiencing a life-threatening illness and wish to pursue higher education. Students must be graduating seniors or previous graduates of a Connecticut High School, or, a student who is a resident of Connecticut, in good standing, at any accredited college or university pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.

In 2021, the Tracy family decided to host the Spencer’s Hero Academia Golf Outing at Wethersfield Country Club. The outing was so successful that the family was able to increase the establishing gift for the Fund. The second annual Spencer’s Hero Academia Golf Outing will take place Monday, September 12, 2022 at Wethersfield Country Club. Those wishing to participate should contact Doug at dtracy61@gmail.com.

If you would like to make a gift to Spencer’s Hero Academia Memorial Scholarship Fund, you can send a check payable to CFGNB to 74 Vine Street, New Britain, CT 06052 with “Spencer’s Hero” in the memo line, or you can make a gift online at www.cfgnb.org/spencers-hero-academia-memorial-scholarship-fund.
