New Donor Advised Fund Established at Foundation has Roots in Southington

(Southington, CT – December 2, 2021) The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB) is excited to announce a newly established donor-advised fund, the Robert and Lauretta Hopko Memorial Fund.

Robert (Bob) and Lauretta raised their three children in Southington. After Bob returned from the Korean War, he became a meat cutter for over 40 years. Lauretta worked as a paraprofessional for William M. Strong Elementary School. Students would recognize Lauretta years after she retired and often tell her about the impact she had made on their lives.
Bob and Lauretta were hard working and lived their lives for their children, making many sacrifices to provide a better future for them. They also were incredibly generous and passionate about many charitable causes and believed that it was important to give back to the community.

Since their parents’ passing, the Hopko children were looking for a way to honor their parents’ memory and the loving and caring ways that defined their lives. “A charitable donor-advised fund seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so,” said Kathy Hopko. “Our philanthropic focus is in Southington, where the Hopko family has longstanding roots. We chose the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain largely due to its proven record of charitable fund management, which has spanned decades. Donor- advised funds also provide an opportunity to involve future generations in philanthropy, enabling our parents’ legacy to positively impact the community for years to come,” she added.
