Liberty Bank Foundation Makes Grant to CFGNB’s Capacity Building Initiative

August 30, 2022, New Britain, Conn. – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB) has been selected to receive a $3,000 grant from the Liberty Bank Foundation in support of their Capacity Building Initiative.

The grant, which will fund the Foundation’s subscription to Foundation Directory Online (FDO), directly supports the CFGNB’s mission by providing access to a resource local nonprofits otherwise would not have, including information on more than 225,000 grant makers. By combining exhaustive data with intuitive search functionality and informative data visualizations, FDO delivers the information needed to reach fundraising goals quickly and efficiently.

“Partnerships like this one help our investment go further,” said David Glidden, Liberty Bank President and CEO. “This single grant will allow many area nonprofits to benefit from the resources offered to the community by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain.”

In 2018, the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain started its Capacity Building Initiative. Since then, staff and board members from nonprofit organizations have benefitted from trainings, workshops, and webinars designed to help them strengthen their operations and address the increasingly difficult challenge of sustaining programs and services during lean fiscal times.
The Initiative also includes a free onsite Nonprofit Lending Library and Resource Center (NPLRC) that provides relevant print and online resources focused on securing and writing grants, governance, and a variety of professional areas. The Library and Resource Center also has an online subscription to Board Source which visitors are welcome to access. BoardSource is the recognized leader in nonprofit board leadership research, leadership, and support. It provides leaders with an extensive range of tools, resources, and research data to increase board effectiveness and strengthen organizational impact, and serve as the national voice for inspired and effective board leadership.

“We are so grateful to be able to use the Foundation Directory Online at the CFGNB’s Nonprofit Resource Center and Lending Library. The Foundation Directory Online allows me to research hundreds of funders that are likely to support our mission. By using the FDO I am able to see the giving history of a particular funder, contact information, and their regional preferences. This kind of insight is invaluable-the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain provides this resource to community based nonprofits free of charge!” said Ron Sheffer, Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of Central CT.

For those who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, you are invited to use our Resource Center and Library in person by making an appointment with Joeline Wruck, Director of Community Initiatives and Program Services. You can either email or call: jwruck@cfgnb.org or 860.229.6018 x 307. In addition to having access to our printed resources, our Library provides unlimited use of both the FDO and BoardSource websites.
