PLANNED GIVING

Welcome! We are pleased that you have an interest in learning about the many benefits of making a planned gift and leaving a legacy of philanthropic support.

Making a bequest/gift in your will or trust is the most common method of arranging a planned gift. You may choose to provide a percentage or a specific sum to go to the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain and any of its funds upon your passing.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MAKING A BEQUEST?

  • You leave a lasting legacy to be remembered and a continuing positive impact in the community
  • You lessen the burden of taxes on your family
  • You may receive estate tax savings

HOW DO I MAKE A BEQUEST?

  • A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift be made to family, friends, or Community Foundation of Greater New Britain as part of your estate plan.

SAMPLE LANGUAGE

  • Specific Dollar Amount: “I bequeath the sum of $_______ to the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, New Britain, Connecticut, to be used or disposed of by its Board of Directors, using its sole discretion.”
  • Share of or Entire Residue of Estate: “I devise and bequeath (all/or ____%) of the remainder of my property to the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, New Britain, Connecticut, to be used or disposed of by its Board of Directors, using its sole discretion.”
  • Restricted Use: “I bequeath the sum of $_______ or (all/or _____%) of the remainder of my property to the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, New Britain, Connecticut, to establish or be added to the ________ Fund.”
  • Create A Fund: A new named endowed fund can be established for a minimum gift of $5,000, although we encourage you to consider a gift of at least $10,000 to ensure a meaningful annual grant from the fund to the community. Scholarships can be established for a minimum gift of $25,000. Income generated by that fund will support the program you designate or a scholarship in perpetuity. If you are planning to restrict your bequest or are considering establishing an endowment, please contact Kaylah Milligan to discuss the proposed purpose of those funds and the possibility of establishing the endowed fund agreement in advance.
