Foundation Welcomes Four New Board Members

New Britain, Conn., March 16, 2022 – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain has elected four new board members to join the Foundation’s already-strong team of volunteers. Elected to serve new multi-year board terms were Zachary Alexander, Timothy Fitzpatrick, Fawatih Mohamed-Abouh, and Violet Jiménez Sims.

Zachary Alexander

Zachary Alexander, an attorney for Day Pitney LLP, has been an active member of the Foundation’s Catalyst Giving Circle, as well as an active board member for the Foundation’s supporting organization, the Community Chest of New Britain and Berlin. He also serves as a volunteer firefighter for the CT Interstate Fire Crew.

Timothy Fitzpatrick

Timothy Fitzpatrick works as the CEO of Baseball Works and the Diamond Sports Foundation. He currently serves on the boards for the College Baseball Foundation and Hall of Fame, The Williams School in New London, and the Salesianum School in Wilmington, DE.

Fawatih Mohamed-Abouh is Co-Founder of the Sudanese American House in CT, and serves as an Assistant Professor of Public Health at UConn Health. She advocates for recent immigrants, especially those with language and cultural barriers such as the Arabic-speaking communities in CT.

Violet Jiménez Sims is currently serving as the Associate Director of Teacher Education at UCONN. Her relationship with the Foundation began when she was a scholarship recipient of the CFGNB’s Alma Exley Scholarship.

The new board members will be officially welcomed at the first board meeting on March 16, while retiring members, James Jones, Rebecca Karabin-Ahern, Stephen Mangan, and Paul Zagorsky were thanked for their service at the final 2021 meeting in December.

“We are grateful to the retiring board members for their exemplary service and commitment to the Foundation over the years, they will be missed,” said David Obedzinski, Community Foundation President. “We are extremely fortunate to add Zachary, Timothy, Fawatih, and Violet to our board, and look forward to the knowledge and insights they will bring to the Foundation.”
