Community Foundation Earns Gold Participant Status from GuideStar
First Connecticut Community Foundation to Achieve Highest Level of Transparency from Nation’s Leading Source of Nonprofit Information
New Britain, Conn. (March 7, 2014) – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain has long prided itself on its high standards as the trusted caretaker of a community endowment of more than $40 million.
And now it is being recognized for this stewardship and its unparalleled level of transparency.
The New Britain-based charitable organization has become the first community foundation in Connecticut to earn Gold Participant status from GuideStar, the leading source of detailed information on nonprofit organizations with more than 15 million visitors to its www.guidestar.org website every year.
Less than 1 percent of the nation’s 1.8 million IRS-recognized nonprofit organizations are GuideStar Gold participants.
The designation means that the Community Foundation, through its membership in the GuideStar Exchange, has completed GuideStar’s thorough and exhaustive process of information sharing – including financial data and impact reporting – and subsequently made this information available through GuideStar’s easy-to-navigate user interface.
“For an organization such as the Community Foundation, inspiring trust and confidence within the community and within the hearts and minds of our donors means everything,” said Jim Williamson, president of the Community Foundation. “That trust must begin with ultimate transparency.
“This status means that our donors can enjoy the utmost confidence in our ability to manage their charitable assets with the highest degree of skill and integrity – and that the track record is there to prove it.”
