Community Foundation Welcomes New Designated Fund

September 14, 2021 (New Britain, Conn.) – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain is excited to announce their newly established designated fund, the New Britain High School Hurricane Spirit Fund.

Paul Quistberg, New Britain High School class of 1980, established the fund in order to celebrate and recognize Hurricane school spirit and pay it forward to current and future generations of students participating in the New Britain High School Music Program.

After graduating from New Britain High School, Paul attended UConn to earn his B.S. in Accounting in 1984. He began his professional career in Hartford at the international accounting firm KPMG before attending the University of Chicago to earn his MBA in Finance. He returned to Hartford where he worked in the investment division of Travelers Insurance until 1995, when he moved to Boston where he currently resides.

Paul’s career took off in Boston, starting at Putnam Investments where, over thirteen years, he rose to become Director of Research and Chief Operating Officer of the Bond Division. From there, he has continued to have investment leadership roles at Columbia Threadneedle Investments, Bank of America, and most recently Fidelity Investments where as Chief Investment Officer of the High Income and Alternatives Division he helps lead one of the largest credit investment teams in the country. Paul is married, has three adult children, remains a big UConn Husky fan, and along with his wife supports numerous educational, community, and faith based organizations.

When asked why Paul decided to establish the NBHS Hurricane Spirit Fund, he replied, “My New Britain upbringing and education made all the difference in helping me succeed in life. I can’t think of a better cause to support to pay it forward to the next generation.”

Paul still regularly visits New Britain, making monthly visits to his parents, who still live in the home where he grew up. Paul speaks fondly about memories he has with friends he met in high school who still live in the area and keep in touch. He reminisces on the intense spirit he felt from his days of involvement in the New Britain music program and hopes to keep that energy strong for years to come.

Paul is offering a 1:1 match for the first $25,000 contributed to the fund. He hopes the community will consider supporting the fund in order to benefit students in the Music Club, marching band, orchestra, chorus, Madrigal Singers, color guard, Canettes, cheerleaders, and related performance and classroom activities. In honor of New Britain’s sesquicentennial, he hopes to raise $150,000 for the fund.

Paul offers the following advice to current New Britain High School students, “Dream big, work hard, stay humble and realize your New Britain work ethic will help you succeed in life.”
