Application Deadline Looms for Grant Funding From Community Chest of New Britain & Berlin

Funding Focus is on Health and Human Services Programming

New Britain, Conn., October 5, 2015 – The application deadline for the second and final round of 2015 grant funding from the Community Chest of New Britain and Berlin (CCNBB) is fast approaching. Community groups and non-profit organizations must submit grant applications by October 15.

Known as the Community Chest since its founding in 1919 and more recently as the United Way of New Britain and Berlin, today’s Community Chest of New Britain and Berlin is a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain. A local and independent Board of Directors identifies and invests resources in programs and initiatives that benefit the New Britain and Berlin communities.

The Community Chest supports programs in the health and human service area and will consider requests for program grants, general operating support and seed grants for new programs. Generally, requests for capital equipment are not funded but may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Proposals will be evaluated with respect to available funding and the potential benefit of the project to the community.

The Community Chest makes grants to non-profit organizations serving New Britain and Berlin that have tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code or that are a qualified entity eligible to receive grants from community foundations under the IRS Code. Funding for grassroots groups will be considered if the group has a governing body and a fiscal agent with the appropriate tax status. Most CCNBB grants are in the $5,000-$20,000 range.

Complete grant application requirements and guidelines are available online. Visit www.cfgnb.org and click on Community Chest of New Britain and Berlin under Receiving.

In 2014, CCNBB awarded grants totaling $193,450. A total of $109,000 in grants have been awarded so far this year.
