Pilot Program Offers Sponsorship Awards for Community Events
July 1 Application Deadline for Local Events Seeking Financial Support
New Britain, Conn. (May 15, 2014) – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB) has announced a pilot program through which it will offer limited financial sponsorship awards to support community-wide special events taking place in its four-town service area in 2014.
Event planners working on behalf of local non-profit programs and organizations must apply by July 1 to be considered for a 2014 CFGNB Community Sponsorship Award.
“Traditionally, the Community Foundation has not offered financial support in the form of sponsorships to local festivals, celebrations and other similar community events,” said CFGNB Vice President, Operations Bob Trojanowski. “However, such events play an important role in the health and vitality of our communities – which the Foundation is all about – and it makes sense for us to test the waters.
“We will evaluate our experience this year and determine if Community Sponsorship Awards make sense as a staple of our institutional community investment policy.”
The Foundation will make a limited number of Community Sponsorship Awards this year to 501(c)(3) organizations conducting community special events in 2014 that are consistent with the Foundation’s mission to make Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington better places to live, work and raise a family. Preference will be given to community events that celebrate and promote children and families; arts, culture and heritage; education; and civic engagement. Events must take place in the Foundation’s four-town service area and be open to the public.
Community Sponsorship Award requests should not exceed $750. However, the Community Foundation may elect to consider awards larger than $750 at its discretion. Awards are limited to one award per organization or event, and will be awarded at the sole discretion of the Community Foundation.
Importantly, awards will not be made to support golf tournaments, walk-a-thons, other sporting events and annual meetings.
