Community Sponsorship Award Applications Now Accepted Year-Round

New Britain, Conn., December 19, 2018 – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain’s popular Community Sponsorship Awards program, which since its debut in 2014 has awarded nearly $60,000 in sponsorships supporting community events organized by local non-profit programs, is making it simpler for event organizers to apply for funding.

Beginning in 2019, the previously established twice-per-year sponsorship award period – with accompanying January 1 and July 1 application deadlines – will no longer be in effect. Organizers of community events may now apply for a Community Sponsorship Award to support their event at any time of year. Applications will be considered throughout the year on a rolling basis, with awards made until funding is no longer available.

“Event organizers are working with many people in the community to plan successful events and sometimes they miss deadlines for Community Foundation support,” said CFGNB President David Obedzinski. “We want to support these important community events when possible and hope this change simplifies the process.”

The change also applies to Community Sponsorship Awards made by the Community Chest of Berlin and New Britain. The Community Chest is a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain.

The program provides critical financial support through sponsorship of local events that celebrate and promote children and families, arts, culture and heritage, education and civic engagement. Among the many events to be supported over the years are the Berlin High School Band Parents Association’s Jazz with Pizzazz, Community Mental Health Affiliates’ Annual Run for Recovery, New Britain High School Parent Teacher Organization’s All-Night Graduation Party, the Plainville Wings and Wheels Annual Fly-In and Car Show and the annual Southington Apple Harvest Festival.

A limited number of Community Sponsorship Awards are available to 501(c)(3) organizations conducting community special events in the Foundation’s four-town service area of Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington. Requests should not exceed $750; however, the Community Foundation may consider awards larger than $750 at its discretion. Awards are limited to one award per organization or event per year.
