Community Foundation Fund Eclipses $1,000,000

(New Britain – December 1, 2021) This Giving Tuesday, the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB) had something new to celebrate. At their annual Giving Brewsday event, held at 5 Churches Brewing in New Britain, local nonprofits set up tables to share their missions and volunteer opportunities with the young and young-at-heart who are interested in philanthropy.

During the event, Art Schaller Jr. of Schaller Auto World made a $150,000 gift to the Schaller Auto World Fund at the Foundation, bringing the fund total to over $1 million.

“What better time to make this gift than on Giving Tuesday?” Art said at the Giving Brewsday event. “Since 1953, my family has dedicated themselves to giving back to the community we serve and love. In 2003, we celebrated our 50th anniversary in New Britain by establishing the Schaller Auto World Fund at the CFGNB. We felt that reaching this milestone would be a great way to celebrate the Foundation’s 80th year. We are grateful to the Foundation for working with us to continue our family’s legacy.”
Giving Tuesday takes place each year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. The Foundation’s Giving Brewsday event is the perfect chance for nonprofits to highlight their missions, solicit donations, and gain new supporters. It’s also a great way for donors like Art Schaller to share their commitment to nonprofit agencies and the communities they serve.

“Our Foundation is extremely proud to be trusted with close to $60 million representing more than 200 charitable funds and scholarships gifted by individuals, families and organizations,” said David Obedzinski, Foundation President. “The Schaller Auto World Fund is a wonderful example of a local family and business that actively engages with our Foundation to identify community needs and makes an impact annually with the grant dollars they award. We are grateful for their partnership with us.”

Donor-advised funds are established by donors who wish to actively participate in the grant-making process. Individuals who establish a donor advised fund recommend charitable projects or organizations they want to support. These funds can be started with just $5,000 and a phone call to the Foundation.
