Scoops for Troops Establishes Agency Fund with CFGNB
During CFGNB’s Giving Brewsday event on December 2, 2025, at 5CB, formerly known as Five Churches Brewing, Scoops for Troops announced the establishment of their new agency fund at the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain. The Scoops for Troops Fund will provide a lasting resource to support veterans, service members, and their families while giving the organization a sustainable way to grow its impact over time.
Giving Brewsday is an annual celebration hosted by CFGNB, on Giving Tuesday, that brings the community together to meet local nonprofits, learn about their missions, and support their work. The event combines education and connection while enjoying a relaxing social setting that features opportunities for attendees to contribute to local causes.
The new agency fund is a build-a-fund! A build-a-fund at the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain is a fund that grows over time. Instead of requiring a large initial donation, it allows donors, to start a fund with a smaller contribution and add to it gradually. This makes philanthropy accessible to people of all ages and means, including young people who want to make an impact in their community.
The fund can support a specific nonprofit, a cause, or a broad mission. As contributions accumulate, the fund grows, earns interest, and provides ongoing grants, creating a lasting legacy. It demonstrates that giving your time, talent, and treasure all count toward making a difference, and it shows that anyone can start a fund, no matter their age or resources, and see it grow into something meaningful for the community.
At Giving Brewsday, guests contributed the first $1,000 to the fund. CFGNB’s Imagine Match Grant matched that amount, doubling the seed money and helping create a lasting legacy.
Giving Brewsday also featured the first-ever $2,500 community vote grant, awarded to Friends of the New Britain Public Library. The evening was celebrated with the event’s special Giveback Brew, created by 5CB specifically for this special CFGNB event.

About Scoops for Troops
Scoops for Troops began with a simple act of gratitude by siblings Michael and Kara, who wanted to thank wounded service members at a 2017 parade in Maine. Their early efforts grew into a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has raised over $75,000 and continues to support military families in meaningful ways. The new Scoops for Troops Fund at CFGNB ensures that philanthropy can grow and create long-term change. Learn more at scoopsfortroops.org.
