New Britain, Conn. August 20, 2020 – The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB) is offering a two-part interactive Zoom series to nonprofits to learn how to find potential funding sources using the Foundation Directory Online (FDO) and the basics of how to write a grant proposal.  The series is free; participation can be for one or both sessions.

The CFGNB has a subscription to the Foundation Directory Online (FDO), a powerful resource that contains information on more than 225,000 grant makers. The majority of these grant makers do not have websites and would otherwise be almost impossible to find. The Foundation is looking to connect local nonprofits with these lesser known funding opportunities. While the FDO must generally be used at the Foundation office, a link to using it remotely will be available through the end of 2020 because of the pandemic.

The series will be divided into two meetings, the first will be September 10 from 8:30am-10:30am and focus on who funds nonprofits and what their motivations are, what funders really want to know about the organizations they are interested in funding, and how to identify potential funders and make the first approach. The session will include hands-on, guided online grant research.

The second meeting will be September 18 from 8:30am-10:30am and will address the basic elements of writing a standard project proposal, the “do’s” and “don’ts” of writing and submitting a proposal, and how to follow up whether the answer is “yes” or “no”. This session will include hands-on exercises to develop a proposal outline.

If you would like to join the workshops, please contact Joeline Wruck at 860.229.6018 ex. 307 or at jwruck@cfgnb.org.
