The Dr. Lorraine G. Spranzo Scholarship Fund

The Dr. Lorraine G. Spranzo Scholarship was initiated in 1996 by the New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni & Associates, Inc. in honor of Dr. Lorraine Spranzo (aka Lorrie Keller), who was, at the time of her death, an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Maryland and a research scholar, having earned her PhD in Policy Sciences in the field of nursing informatics. She had served communities of nursing practice in Connecticut, Colorado, Maine, and Maryland, and was known for her dedication to nursing excellence, clinical expertise, enthusiasm for teaching, and her compassion and love for others. To reflect those attributes, preferred applicants for this scholarship will demonstrate a professional, academic, and personal commitment to highest standards of excellence and clear concern for those in his or her circle of care.

Eligible candidates will be Connecticut residents who are exemplary graduate students matriculated in an accredited graduate program in a Connecticut college or university, or Connecticut residents matriculated in an accredited graduate nursing program out of state; or doctoral candidates (PhD, DNP or EdD).

Applicants must be matriculated in programs of study accredited by either the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), which includes the National League for Nursing (NLN) and American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). Master’s level candidates enrolled in non-NLNA or non-CCNE programs are not eligible for this scholarship award.PhD and EdD candidates in programs related to nursing practice or education may apply.
