Friendship Service Center of New Britain, Inc.

A place where those who are hungry are fed, the homeless are sheltered and everyone is welcome

Our Mission

The mission of the Friendship Service Center of New Britain, Inc. is to provide friendship and direct service to the poor and needy of Central Connecticut, including the ownership and operation of housing for the poor.

The Friendship Service Center of New Britain, Inc.'s Outreach program. The Friendship Center was founded in 1968 by Monsignor Joseph Farrell who lived his life believing that “Nobody is a nobody in the eyes of God.”  Although many aspects of the Friendship Center’s services have changed over time to reflect community needs, the founder’s core values remain the same.  Today the Friendship Service Center provides a continuum of services for those who are poor and homeless.  These services range from outreach to those still living on the streets, to soup kitchen services, emergency needs, emergency shelter, transitional living, beyond shelter services and permanent supportive housing.

Our Story

Since 1968, the Friendship Center has come full circle. Monsignor Farrell’s dream that the Center grow and “be of as much help to as many people as possible” has continued to guide the staff and Board and to bear fruit. We reach out to all who come through our doors; accepting each individual wherever he or she may be; offering respect and kindness; food and shelter; case management; and the belief that, with time and love, each individual child of God can grow and change.

“Our Work is Love Made Visible.”
